A lot of Serach Engines don't use Meta Tags but some do. You should still use them.

Since you focus on Promotion and Marketing how about trying one of the oldest methods in the book?

I used to scoff at FFA pages as a waste of bandwidth. Nobody really reads those ads, do they? Then why do so many people post there?

The secret is don't post, host.

You can host an FFA page for free and you don't even need your own server. It takes just minutes to setup. Then everyone who posts (and there are plenty who will) receives an email from you promoting your forum and newsletter. The response I have received from trying this are amazing. I heard it didn't work anymore myself, but they are wrong.

Another overlooked point is by posting your website link often it increases popularity with the search engines. Use a simple headline and you might even get a few hits thrown in free.
