Hey Tech...

It looks like it's starting to come back. GoogleGuy said it would so I'm guessing we can assume this was a glitch. However, it looks like it's coming back slowly or either still not completly working.

I'm getting TBPR now in Firefox. I got it once in IE on a Microsoft site. However, in IE I've not seen it anywhere else.

Would you have rather seen it stay or go?

It's now showing up for me in IE and Firefox. It's also showing up on our PageRank Tool.

I don't mind having it around. It can be helpful in regards to link swaps but it doesn't show the whole picture on how "important" or "relevent" the website really is... It also can get people confused thinking that it is more important than what it really is.

I'd have to do more reading on it's importance to give an exact answer.

What are your thoughts on it?

I agree with the Google Rep...

Quote:
"The PageRank that is displayed in the Google Toolbar is for
entertainment purposes only. Due to repeated attempts by hackers to
access this data, Google updates the PageRank data very infrequently
because is it not secure. On average, the PR that is displayed in the
Google Toolbar is several months old. If the toolbar is showing a PR of
zero, this is because the user is visiting a new URL that hasn't been
updated in the last update. The PR that is displayed by the Google
Toolbar is not the same PR that is used to rank the webpage results so
there is no need to be concerned if your PR is displayed as zero. If a
site is showing up in the search results, it doesn't not have a real PR
of zero, the Toolbar is just out of date"

As far as seeing it go - yep, you betcha.. The reason is because it degrades the quality of the Web, not as it exists but as we find it. On one hand we have Google saying they only want 'natural link stuctures' and then on the other hand there they are silently - but effectively - telling everybody who to link to.

The result of that is that big sites just get bigger in terms of link equity at an alarming rate. And often it has very little to do with quality. IMHO, PageRank is just a marketing vehichle for Google that they're willing to exploit. The only question is unto what end...

I'm obviously all for people considering the importance of a page when they're making their linking decisions. However, if they didn't have that little green bar there and instead had to do a little (very brief) research when making their decisions I think you'd see much better search results, ironically at Google.

Thanks J.K. That's good info.

When I click the link you gave in FireFox it's redirecting me to "noodletools.com".. It works fine in IE... Weird huh?

Hmmm... not sure what's up with that, Tech. I clicked on it and got the Noodle thing too... Oddly, onMouseover I saw the status bar say http://cite or something like that.

"Cite" was what I used for Link Text there.

In any case, here's a TINY URL.. http://tinyurl.com/75kdb

Lets just hope that the redirect isn't the result of turning PR back on... lol.. I noticed in another post that a page was loading slow for ya. My Firefox has been acting up (it seems) since they turned it back on. However, it's hard for me to imagine that the two are related..

That's weird... Don't know how http://cite got in there. I modified your post and corrected the problem... Weird...

I'm not sure if my FireFox has been acting up... If it has I haven't noticed it... Do you have 1.0.4?

Yep... Firefox 1.04...

The only thing I'm running on it that might be effecting performance is a Flash blocker...

I don't know... I actually visited the FireFox Extensions page and it told me to do some modifications to the browser settings... Check it out. It may help...

Also check that all of your extensions are up to date...
