Default Need help customising search engine in PHP or perl

I'm trying to customise any one of a number of free search engine scripts that I have downloaded, but am having no luck. I need to edit it so i can search multiple checked sites and deliver the results as follows:
site1: x results found
site 2: x results found
etc for 10 to 50 sites.
if possible with price comparisons as well.
is it feasible to use a different engine for each site and have one submit button starting all that are checked?
I will also be needing to use a low bandwidth engine and strip out everything but the number of results found.
I'd be very grateful for any pointers, and you can keep track of progress here if anyone is interested.
thanks.

So you are wanting to search multiple sites at one time? And then show how many results are found in each site? Where are you wanting to show the results?

Thank you bongoots and tech.
I want to show the results on a new results page. Having searched multiple affiliate sites.
I would prefer to show the number of results at each site next to a static html link to the site (which would make it easy to use my affiliate id).
If this proves too difficult I will try to deliver results as is standard in a search result (title, description etc) but need the link to acknowledge my affiliate ID.
