Checking If EXTERNAL website is online..

hi, im looking for a script that will check an external website, every so often say 30 minutes. now i no there is one as a guy on another forum mentioned he used one. But can not remember what its called.

Can some one point me into a direction on where i should be looking or searching for, or how i can get hold of?

He mentioned it to be in a PHP script language.
