Default Need help creating a members only script

Hi Everyone,

I thought I was ready to put my website on-line, but found out that none of the Host/Domain sites will do the PHP scripting that I need on 90% of my pages.

I intend to have a Subscription based website (to generate a little income for myself), like a magazine. But in order to do that I have to add some kind of script on the pages that I don't want non-members to have access to until they've purchased their membership.

My expertise is in early childhood education, and christian parenting. I've done consulting work for 5 yrs, but because of health reasons, needed something based out of my home.

Thanks,
Rainbow

No PHP... Does your web host support any other programming language?

I don't know for sure. I've been looking at Powweb.com if any one else wants to look at it.

Powweb.com has PHP. If you want you can give me the url of your current host and I can check out their plans.

A harder way to authenticate would be to use .htaccess. You will have to add and remove members manually:

http://httpd.apache.org/docs/howto/htaccess.html#auth

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you. I haven't been feeling very well yesterday and today.

My website is not on-line yet. I have been using Microsoft Publisher to create my webpages.

I would like to add whatever programming lines onto my pages that I need blocked from non-members. You referred to .htaccess, but I'm not familiar with that.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge, but that's where I'm at.

I only thought you could create websites with MS Word not Publisher

Unfortunately you're going to need to know atleast basic HTML and possibly some basic PHP to know how to password protect your pages... It is not as basic as creating pages with publisher.

One way would be to purchase a script. I've never used this one but it looks good: http://www.groundbreak.com/products.html. Written in Perl and MySQL and uses .htaccess.

Another way would be to hire a programmer...

If you arer still not confident with those options I stronly suggest using .htaccess. You can find a really good tutorial on setting it up at: http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess3.shtml

You will have to sign up for your web hosting to use all these options. They will not run from your computer.

Hopefully this helps
