i have a question can you help ?
when we are using our pc as a server why speed of serving is very slow with only 3 or 4 visitor at a time but speed of other sites is high like this site or like yahoo and hotmail with thousand of users at a time?
does speed of site depend upon bandwith what is their bandwith?

Welcome to the forums!

hmmmm.... that is a good question... :?

I don't think it depends on the bandwidth but how well the site and its graphics are optimized.

It's a mixture of a lot of things....

Bottle necks everywhere are possible:

1. the site may be using a lot of server side code and has not been optimized to handle it
2. the server does not have a lot of ram or a slow processor
3. the backbone to the internet may be slower then a OC3 connection

not to metion as above the site may be poorly designed.

It's always good to have a fast internet connection like broadband and it is also good to have plenty of hard drive space and plenty of memory on your computer.

I don't have broadband so I don't really know... i think they are all the same

With the hard drive and ram, it all depends on how much room you have used up on your computer. If your hard drive is nearly full, it would be a good idea to add another hard drive.

This you would have to talk to a local computer company or the people who created your computer.

It wouldn't be a good idea to host websites on your local machine if you are very new to it.

There are alot of variables that you need to take care of when hosting. Most importantly is security. With services running on your machine and without the proper patches, you are asking for trouble.

Shared hosting are very cheap these days. Just look at the ad forum here.
