Funny video sites
I've saw many new funny video sites in last year and I was thinking why there is so many of those sites. They require large amount of bandwidth, often they have videos without legal rights to submit them on their sites, they require to be updated every day. So why so many peoples are developing them ? Are they so profitable ?

Thx, hostaddicts.
I'm now in the process of looking for a new hosting and looks like I should already decide wheter I want to run a funny video site or not.

Where would you obtain the videos with legal rights?

I don't know yet. I saw on many forums that peoples are looking for that kind of movies with legal rights but I've never saw any answers to their posts. But it must be some way to get those movies for reasonable price or there is a second way, forget about copyright protected videos and stick to submited by visitors private owned videos. I need also figure out what kind of hosting do I need for that kind of site. Do shared will be enough for a start ? And how much bandwidth.

How do you think you are going to profit from this?

I think that the best way to profit from that kind of sites is by running some CPM campaigns form Ad Networks like FastClick, Casale etc. and by selling links and banner spaces.

Perhaps start of with shared web hosting... Instead of paying big bucks for dedicated it would be best to test the waters and see if it is actually going to work... If it does start working you should upgrade... a lot of shared web hosts out there give you plenty of bandwidth...

I think that you have to be able to promote the site, too. Along with that is the realization that you might have to keep it up for one to three years before you see the traffic that you are looking for. I have yet to see anything develop into a huge success overnight on the internet (please correct me if I am wrong). Take a look at eBay, for instance. Before it was eBay, it was AuctionWeb. That was back in the early 1990's before anybody had anything other than dial-up. It worked, but there were only a handful of users on it. One thing led to another, and look at it today.
