Default File Launches on server when clicked

Can anyone help me? I have a web server on which I would like to put a link to download a file (setup2.exe). I created the link as follows:

<b><a href="http://resa1.k12.wv.us/utility/setup2.exe">USB Drive Installer</a></b>

The problem is that when I click on the link, the file is launched on the server and doesn't give an option to download the file. I can right click and choose "Save target as" but I want to be able to just click the file and be propted to save it. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the forums!

What does it do when you click it?

When I click it, it launches the file on the server - the file actually starts on the server - meaning that if I go to my server and look at the processes runing, setup2.exe is one of the processes running now. It slows my server to a crawl until I end the process.

What if you zip up the .exe file first before loading it onto your webserver.

Yes, zipping the file will work, but I was wondering why the exe file launches instead of downloading. Any clues?

Thanks

I think that is just how it is... Maybe you need to add a function to the exe file that downloads it... I dunno.
