Default 404 error page problems

I have a customised 404 page for my site which works fine and shows all jpgs/giffs if error occurs in main page. However, if a 404 error occurs in a subdirectory the 404 page shows but the jpgs/giffs are missing. Does this mean I have to put the icons in each directory, or is there another solution?
Example:
http://stevenredhead.com/car.html works fine
http://stevenredhead.com/Ecology/fish.html - no jpgs/giffs.
Any ideas how to resolve are most welcome.
Thank you

You seem to have already fixed it. But for others who have this same problem, it is because if you just link to your images like:

<img src="error.gif" border="0">

And you get an error in a sub folder, it will think that error.gif exists in the sub folder. So you need to link to your images like this:

<img src="/error.gif" border="0">

Or this:

<img src="http://www.yourdomain.com/error.gif" border="0">

Hope that helps!

Default Repaired

Hi Ben,

Yes, someone on another Forus gave me the advice, but not as clearly as you, they just mentioned absolute URLS, so I guessed that I should put all the url for each giff/jpg and it worked. The format I used was;

<img src="http://www.yourdomain.com/error.gif" border="0">

Thank you for the time for your reply.
Cheers,
Steve
